Probably the best Japanese curry in Tokyo. Highly recommended. This little shop down a hidden Jinbocho alleyway changed my taste buds forever. Manten Curry, meaning “full marks” or “perfect score” in Japanese, lives up to its name as one of the best places in Tokyo for curry. The rankings and reviews speak for themselves (just turn on that translator first). Which makes me wonder why this place is still a big secret in the restaurant scene. Take a seat around the counter surrounding the kitchen and when the cook asks, just shout out the order. The cooks may not know much English, but they are extremely kind and might even try to strike up a conversation. While waiting for your food, feel free to sip on the water and coffee in front of you, and watch as your dish is being prepared. Seven minutes later, Enjoy! One of the reasons why I love this spot is because of it’s homey atmosphere. The cooks are right there in front of you, taking orders, making food, and receiving payments. They are extremely polite in their mannerisms but casual with their language (which is extremely rare in the Japanese food service industry). The cooks are on a first name basis with regulars as well, another rarity in Japan. Whether you’re a curry connoisseur or just want to try something new, I’d strongly suggest checking out Manten Curry in Jinbocho.

The place offers some of the most authentic Japanese curry rice with deep fried pork chop. The portion is generous, price unbeatable at 500 to 600 yen, although the seating may be a bit crowded. It’s indeed very popular among local working class folks!

Fantastic curry. Several different options to choose from, but I went with the standard katsu curry. It was delicious, and the service fast. Restaurant is small but people are in and out quickly. As for the price, you can’t beat it...650 yen. I highly recommend trying this place out. You won’t regret it.

My girlfriend and I went here for lunch. Small casual place with probably 15 seats at the counter. Lots of Japanese business men eating here. Menus are in Japanese, used google translate. I got the tonkatsu, she got the potato croquettes. Both were very delicious. Came with ice coffee and water. Highly recommend, the staff was very friendly despite our lack of Japanese. The cook refused my tip, told me to come back instead. No frills, come for a quick bite, good sized portions and friendly staff! Y1250 for the two of us.

Delicious and fast and very, very affordable. The jumbo curry is an explosion of flavor and quite filling for the hungriest of us. Highly recommended
