Japanese language is essential. If you cannot speak Japanese you will not be allowed to take a pottery class. Luckily, you can go down the street to Zuikougama where they are very lovely and friendly and welcoming!!

Speed pottery class, they send it overseas or inside Japan when it’s done.

It’s my first bad review in my life. I was very disappointed. I visited this place 2 years ago and the staff was very friendly spoke a bit of English and was so helpful. We made two bowls and they delivered in to my home in Singapore. This time in September 2018. The staff was very impolite and directly said that they don’t cater foreigners, only Japanese speaking people. I was a bit shock. Even my friend was denied, who can speak 70% Japanese but she is not a Japanese. So disappointed. I felted they were racist and very rude. It’s the first time I ever felt like this. They got good location but very poor service. We are still using the product we bought in 2016.

Great ceramic craft school, where you can create your own japan bowl, using pottery wheel. The masters are calm, smiling, patiente, speak English. They will apply the glazer on your bowl and will send it to your address. To Czech republic it took about 3-4 weeks. Strongly recommended! The bowl is my nicest souvenir from Japan! :)

Probably the least recommended pottery class in Kyoto, as a foreign traveler. As part of experiencing Kyoto art culture, I've attended few pottery and bamboo handcraft class in the city. The counter staff was very impolite and impatient to the guests as a contrary to the two sansei giving the lessons. Sensei was skillful and patient even though they only speak little English. However, the class was a bit of rush... just 20 minutes.
