Each episode is a different discussion on a different topic related to Japanese society, politic, or culture, with participation from experts, authors, activists, or just normal individuals who have something interesting to share about Japan."​ We all really wanted to make a podcast, and we thought about how having people from all over the globe living together in Japan was quite a unique characteristic to emphasize. We came together in a group of five, discussed what we wanted to do, and Bento Bureau was born. The Bento, a Japanese lunchbox, stands for our focus on Japan. Bureau comes from our desire to have socio-political discussions. We cover various topics about Japanese society through our interviews with experts, authors, activists, or just normal individuals who have stories to share about Japan.
