The castle with a history of more than 500 years is greatly maintained. The staff was very helpful in reminding everyone of their steps as the visitors made their way up to the 6th level. The staircases are quite steep and sometimes narrow, not to mention, tall people have to mind their heads at each landing. The castle is airy. The wooden floor can be cold in the winter as everyone has to carry their shoes in a provided plastic bags (hopefully these bags are properly treated?!). There's an interesting collection of rifles, portable bullet holders and bullet cases.

Matsumoto Castle was beautiful. You can climb up to 6th floor to enjoy the view from the top of the castle. In the castle there are samurai suits and guns and bullets on display. The stairs were very steep and slippery so you have to be very careful. The ticket prices was 700yen for and adult. After the tour of the castle, with the same ticket you can use that to enter a museum close to the castle. We didn't go to the museum because we didn't have time. So you can also choose not to go if you don't have time or not interested.

Parking nearby was plentiful and inexpensive. This made a great stop on the way to Nagano. Very impressive architecture. Had very steep stairs which made us a little nervous for the kids but the staff there is very attentive and safety conscious. Very impressive older gun collection. Our kids loved fellow in full samurai gear at the exit who was very generous in posing for pictures.

It’s a castle, in Matsumoto. It’s exactly what the name says and I was a terrific experience. Wish the town had a bit more to do though!

Pretty neat castle with well kept grounds and a park surrounding it. There are no barriers to the moat but the water isn't deep if you were to fall in. Lots of koi swimming around along with swans and ducks. You can enter the castle grounds and the castle itself, but I had my dog with me so I wasn't planning on going in. There are a ton of other historic sites around the area, such as a shrine across the street. It was definitely worth going out of our way for.
