I went to St. Mary’s 60 years ago for one year. What a place. Had a field on top of the school. Had to stand in the corner in the stairwell for talking in line. My family lived in Washington Heights. Great memories although I was only 6.

I attended St. Mary’s for first and second grade, in the mid-80s. We had moved from a tiny town in upstate New York, for my father’s work. Needless to say, Tokyo was overwhelming for my young self. But I found a home at St. Mary’s: the teachers were kind, the curriculum was diverse and advanced, and my fellow students were, despite coming from all corners of the world, like me — out of their element, a bit scared even, but friendly and curious. I wish I had been able to keep in touch with many of them, but this was all pre-internet and my family moved several more times. I have no idea what St.Mary’s is like today, but if it’s half as great as I remember, it’s a special place indeed.

Middle and high school curriculum is well organized. However, elementary school principle (DiMuzio) is not professional and biased against certain race.
