Lovely hotel. Food is nice, service is fantastic (kudos to the young lady who can speak good English). They do provide rentals for ski equipments and the nearest ski area would be Maruike.

The moment we stepped into the hotel, we feel their hospitality. The young lady at the reception (sorry I forgot her name) is good in English, and more important, she is sincere when she speaks to you. Other staff we encountered are also professional and well mannered. I booked a 10 tatami room for my family of 4. The room is very cleaned and spacious, well equipped to make you stay comfortably. The breakfast and dinner is delicious, the portion is very generous. We stayed there for 3 nights, and the food is not repeated. There are not many items in the drinks menu, but they are all well selected. The public bath is clean with an open bath as well. There are two private baths which can use for free of charge and no need to book. The common area are comfortable and equipped with water, magazines, games etc. Actually the whole hotel is well designed sand properly maintained. The ski room is spacious and clean, with a ski rental shop as well. There is a small ski field with walkable distance, or you can take the free shuttle bus to go to other ski fields. It is a pity that this year snow is not enough but staying in Shirakabaso had made our ski trip more enjoyable. If we come to Shigakogen again, we definitely will stay in this hotel again.

One of the best hotels in the area. Very clean overall, and delicious food. Staff are all super friendly and very nice people, with many able to speak English. Ski locker room is very spacious and convenient, with even waxing irons, clamps, and wax free to use. Plenty of racks with locks to leave your skis overnight. There is a heated drying room for boots, where you’re boots will dry overnight no matter how soaked they get. Several communal areas with sofas throughout the hotel. There’s a small shop selling snacks and excellent locally produced beer. Also a ski and snowboard rental shop in the hotel. The hotel is a minute walk to a small ski area behind, and another few minutes walk crossing a street will get you to the giant ski slope, that leads to the rest of Shiga Kogen ski area. Highly recommend this hotel for skiing.

A great hotel. -Meals: Enjoyed every meal. The dinner was truly a great one in particular. Definitely an authentic Japanese cuisine. -Room: Loved "futon" experience on nice tatami floors. -Access: Located in the middle of Shigakogen. Nice to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and lakes especially during summer. Also, good access to Jigokudani Onsen, a monkey park from this hotel. -Spa: Loved the open-air bath!! -Staff: Highly professional with good manners and services.

We stayed here 2 days for Christmas and loved it. We had a Japanese style bedroom (up to 4people), enjoyed ski in ski out from the hotel to the big ski resort of shigakogen (all slopes connected) and returning to the hotel for a hot onset bath. Staff is great, food is amazing (half boarding with breakfast and dinner served in the Japanese tradition). You can rent your skis at the hotel, purchase there your ski pass and borrow some gear. It is located 20m away from Hasuike bus stop.

If you want to ski and have the real Japanese wipe, Shirakabaso is the place to go.
