Hanamizushi was not bad but not enough of it really made me say yum. A few things did stand out though. - the ootoro was great - the Ikura was really good as well - I enjoyed their gari (pickled ginger served with sushi) - the chawanmushi with ikura was delicious These things in mind, for me, I don’t think there was enough that was memorable about the experience here. Hanamizushi is good but nothing really separates it from other sushi restaurants of it’s caliber.

I had been interested in this sushi restaurant ever since I moved to Meguro. On the outside, it has a classical style, and so I wondered what it was like inside as well. When I finally had a chance to check it out, I wasn't disappointed! The restaurant only offers sushi at lunchtime. I usually order 'omakase', which means the chef chooses the menu, which will include several courses. The food was very traditional, which I love, and the atmosphere was cozy and lively. This place has been in business for 88 years, and the chef who served us was the 3rd to be in charge since it was founded. Such a long history Although this is truly a hidden gem, there were many foreigners eating here as well They seemed like regulars who work in Meguro, though, so the restaurant still had a nice local feel. I’m so happy I found this place because I hadn't been able to find any good sushi restaurants in Meguro. Finally I succeeded! Yay! I want to eat out here at night sometime as well. I asked about the price for dinner, and I was told that it depends on what food and drinks are available on that night. This is also very much part of classical Japanese sushi culture! I guess it might be 15,000 for an omakase course. Well worth it, in my opinion!

Awesome sushis, service was great, the server spoke very good english and was willing to accomodate our order even if it wasn’t in the menu. Prices are reasonable too. Will go back for sure.
