Tamiya HQ is the Mecca of scale modeling. The main hall has several vehicles on display, like the Tyrrell P34 and the VW Dune Buggy. Other rooms you can visit are the archive room, were you can see kits released from the 1950's until the 1990's and the catalog room were the display all there build kit that were shown in there catalogs. One thing to note is that you need to make a reservation on there website to visit here.
If in or passing through shizuoka its worth a stop for a little tamiya history. There isn't a major amount on show but all the key items from begin to current. Note that it does say you should let them know in advance that you are visiting. Email the day before . . Though we just popped in with no problem and had the display rooms to ourselves. There is a display room. Lobby area with the full size cars/bikes, a small display room and shop.
Worth a quick visit if you happen to pass by Shizuoka. Small gallery of Tamiya cars which is rich in history and culture on how it begins.
Has all sorts of Tamiya swag & trinkets. Great gifts, souvenirs & collectibles for model hobbyists at home. Be sure to visit the HQ corporate museum in the same bldg. Amazing displays, dioramas prototypes and original box art paintings. (Museum requires advanced reservations). Counter associate has limited English but is very nice!
