We stayed in 2018. It is a classic ryokan in the mountains and has a good atmosphere. The room we stayed in was real vintage like a back to 18century. You can hear the sound of walking and the sound of the next room (Maybe it's a nightingale floor?). Recommended for those who like old classic Japan. Mixed bathing hot springs are very interesting. A men(Ojisan) wore glasses and took a bath looking for something with curious eyes, but most man who turned his back to the entrance and stared at the wall direction and enjoying the hot spring was like a Samurai and they are very cool! The place has time for only women, this hot spring is recommended for those who are not good at mixed bathing.

My partner and I had a phenomenal time here! We found this place from a list of Onsen that allow foreigners with tattoos. The staff was as incredibly friendly and welcoming as the fellow Onsen patrons. No one spoke fluent English, though they did have an English speaking staff member and I at no point felt misunderstood. The various bathhouses were absolutely breathtaking! There were many courses to the dinner and it was fun to eat our way through them. There is also some beautiful hiking around the area as well. Highly recommended! Can’t wait to come back on our next trip to Japan!

Excellent service and food. We atr breakfast and dinner in our room. There are 3 different pools to soak in. There are trails to hike to break-up the day.

Nice area, far from cities and crowds. It’s a traditional Japanese bathhouse, with mixed-gender Onsen (hot spring) and onsen for men/women only. Among its three hot springs, 玉城乃湯 is an outdoor one with views, but you need to watch out for insects in summer. Food is traditional Japanese cuisine: fish, vegetables, soup and a bunch of stuff I don’t know... The menu is in Japanese but their staff speak English as well, conversational. Girls might want to blow dry their hair in the locker room cuz the hair dryer in the room is pretty weak.

This is absolutely a rare beauty we found in the middle of the mountains. 140 years of ancient history provided very special and amazing onsen experience to all of us. Amazing hospitality.
