Yamanakaonsen Wagatanimachi

Ishikawa prefecture's Fujisha Peak, or Fujishagatake, stands to the south of Yamanaka Onsen and is, at a little under 1000m, the highest peak you'll catch sight of when walking around the town. On a clear day the summit offers views of the Japan Sea to the west and beautiful mountainous terrain to the south and east, including Ishikawa's highest peak, Mt. Haku (白山). There are three direct climbing routes, and a fourth with follows the ridgeline from Mt. Hitomoshi (Hitomoshiyama). The main (我谷/Wagatani) route is accessed via a red suspension footbridge which you will see to your right from Wagatani Dam when approaching town from the south. If you're driving, you can park on the side of the road near the footbridge. The second most commonly used route (大内/Oouchi), is from the south of the peak. After passing through the small the small town of Takeda the road will go up over a long bridge followed by an even longer tunnel. just after the end of the tunnel there is a small road off to the right. Follow this up to a car park and you will find the trail head at the northern end. The third and lesser used trail is accessed by crossing the 九谷/Kyudani Dam wall. About 30 meters on there is a steep metal staircase which marks the beginning of the climb. Any of these three routes will be challenging enough for most moderate hikers, to attempt in a day but all are very enjoyable. For those who like to do more Climb Mt. Hitomoshi from behind the shrine at the southern end of the Oouchi route car park then head north over Mt. Kogura (小倉山) and follow the trail along the ridge to Fujisha Peak and descend via the Oouchi route to return to your starting point. This route is more challenging and time consuming, so I recommend being light and fast (don't forget to take food, you'll need it). Keep in mind Fujisha Peak is quite steep in places and climbing requires moderate fitness, but if you're up to the challenge it will make for a very satisfying day off the tourist circuit.
