Keihoku Oshio Matsuage 京北小塩松上げ : This summer fire festival of Matsuage in Oshio is held around 23rd of August. It is scheduled to be the nearest saturday from 23rd. This village of Oshio is located in the eastern part of Kihoku-cho near Joshokoji Temple. Just as other Matsuage festival it is held for the purpose of making warship to a deity of Atago to wish for the protection from fire. Those participants toss up torch while screaming " Yah, yah " aiming at the top of central torch stands as tall as 15 meters off the ground. The tradition of Matsuage started in 960 when a part Imperial Palace was burnt in fire accident. Matsuage festivals are held in several mountainous villages along the road which connect Kyoto and Wakasa ( northern seaside region ) during Obon season ( from mid to late August ). In this village of Oshio the festival has been organized by the cooperation of local autonomous body working toward preservation of tradition and custom since 1974 and now it is designated as an intangeble cultural asset. This event starts at 18:00. The access by public transportation is by Keihoku Furusato Bus ( local bus operated in Keihoku ), but it is not recommended since the event is held at night. Please note that this event would not be held in heavy rain or under any other kind of adversary weather conditions. 道路左手にある日吉神社が目印 前を流れる小塩川を渡って100mほど行った畑の中が松上げ広場 何回か昼間の明るい時間帯に下見に行ってたが道路からは広場が見えないことで納得しました。
