ACE is a Non-Governmental, Non-Profit Organization based in Japan that address the issues of child labour around the world. We are an international cooperation whose vision is to realize and safeguard children's rights through education, empowerment and ethical business. There are 152 million children around the world who cannot receive an education and are in danger of injury or disease as a result of hazardous labour. Approximately 70% of these children work in the agricultural industry. Currently, we are working to eliminate child labour in the cocoa and cotton industry in our project areas - Japan, India, and Ghana. We do this by addressing its root cause (poverty) and fighting it at every stage of the supply chain from farmer to consumer. At the local level, our SMILE Ghana Project and PEACE India projects work with local communities to withdraw village children from labour and provide financial support to put them into education. These projects also provide other forms of support such as financial management training to the children's families and community development activities to ensure the long term safeguarding of children and the sustainable development of the farming communities. At the policy level, we offer policy proposals to local and international governments and participate in global conferences to ensure legislative protection and commitment to fight child labour. Finally, we work to prevent the facilitation of child labour at the consumer end of the supply chain by raising awareness of the use of child labour amongst the public and encourage ethical business practices with Japanese and international organisations. For example, we collaborated with the Japanese chocolate giant, Morinaga & Co., Ltd., to produce and sell Fair Trade labelled chocolate with cacao produced in our child labour-free project areas in Ghana (2014, 2015).
