An exhibit about the craft of karakuri. These puzzle boxes will make your brain tingle, but when you hit the solution, you will have a feeling of satisfaction.
Loved the art and unique crafts of this place, the owner is incredibly sweet and demonstrated the various types of secret boxes. It was so cool to see all the steps to how to open the kabuki boxes, including ones with polar bears and items that have to be moved in certain ways to open the box.
Japanese wooden art at its finest. A show to demonstrate the craft is available, a museum on the premises may be visited and the wooden objects are quite unique. Wide variety available, from chopsticks to intricate \mystery\ cases and such.
They have a 40 minute workshop on constructing secret boxes with Hakone yosegi zaiku (wooden mosaic work). While the mosaic and the box are prefabricated and you simply decorate the wooden box, you would get to understand how it all works. The museum is quite cool, with interesting furniture and containers with secret compartments that require unique methods in order to access them.
