This local restaurant is an example of one outside of the big cities of Japan that makes you feel like part of the family. A popular restaurant in Hirosaki, it specializes in regional dishes. When I entered the restaurant, the proprietress greeted me and invited me to sit by the bar. She knew i was a tourist right away. I ordered a nabe dish according to the food displays at front and in the menu (no English). I also also ordered a regional specialty of deep fried squid balls. Although the food was delicious (and so cheap) it was my interaction with with the proprietress. She was so friendly and made conversation with me even though she does not speak English and I spoke very little Japanese. She asked where I was from, and asked why I was in Japan. She was impressed that I had traveled extensively in Hokkaido prior to visiting Hirosaki. She showed such interest in my travel adventures. We both used Google Translate (thanks Google!!!) and we had a great time. When the food arrived, she taught me how to eat the nabe which was a process it turned out. It is this example that made my trip. Sure it was the scenery and visiting far flung places, but the experiences with the locals was what I cherish the most. I will be back one day and visit again.

The restaurant offers some Aomori/Hirosaki's specialties like Igamenchi, Keno Shiru, and Kaiyaki Miso which were yummy and tasty.
Very delicious!!
If you are in Hirosaki and want to have authentic Tsugaru cuisine you should come and visit Kikufuji. In this Izakaya style restaurant you will find a lot of local specialities. My recommendation is scallop apple fry! Please enjoy!
Nice but pretty expensive comparing to the other restaurants. I don't recommend fried stuff. Oily.
Food was delicious! Especially the igamenchi. Cozy atmosphere.
Amazing food with a traditional Japanese setting. Love this place a lot and will definitely be back for its noodles.
Decent food but not the best. No English menu but pictures made it easier.
