As a foreigner living in Japan for close to 30 years I've experienced just about anything you could experience here. Of course I'm talking about the occasional dismissive glance, getting stared at, minor discrimination, and not being accepted. The people at Jyounan Pool couldn't be nicer. The staff at the counter greet you with a warm smile and a hello, they're very helpful if you don't understand something, the lifeguards will chat with you if you give them a chance, and the customers, which there are a lot of older customers in their 60's and higher, well, let me just say that they welcomed me into the group of walkers on my first day there. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. If you have tattoos I suggest taping over them or wearing something to cover them. As with most pools in Japan a swim cap is a must, they won't allow you in the pool without one. Remove all jewelry too.
