Great place to visit! I walked on foot from Takao Station... The road is wonderful. Many shrines and beautiful gardens, trees, houses. Hachioji Castle is not yet a castle, even ruins... Just stones and stairs and bridges. But the air is full of history. The forest have many to tell. And the waterfall is wonderful.

I enjoyed the hiking trail around the castle ruins, and the historical background of the castle. As for the ruins themselves, there is no much to it. Some bridges, stone stairs and base of the main house. There is a small waterfall where some dark episode occurred that is base for a lot of ghost related superstition from the Japanese people.

Remains of the Hachiyoji Castle. Nicely organized with information center and volunteer guides. While most information is Japanese-only, there are also some materials in English. And with some luck it is possible to find an English speaking guide! To cover the whole area some light to moderate hiking is required, so it's good to get better shoes, food and drinks.

Probably the most underrated place in Hachioji. Beautiful scenery, peaceful and has some historical merit. Go there if you have a couple of hours to spare.
