No wheelchair-accessible entrance
It is a nice garden, with nice trees, and tree roots next to the steps up, but I was not excited to see an old chimney that is a copy of a copy of a British furnace, that did not work. When I stop there again (at the convenience store below for coffee on the way vack from Abu Road Station and pool, or Kyogahama surfing beach, both highly recommended) I will check to see if there is sea view which, like the roots, will interest me more than the old chimney.

One of the world heritage site in Japan. Only three in Japan, including this one in Hagi. Really appreciated and shocked by looking this giant reverberatory furnance!!

World heritage, worth learning
気軽に見学できて公園のような雰囲気ですが、立派な世界遺産です。 試験炉とのことで実際に運用はされなかったようですが、歴史的背景を踏まえると近代化に向けた熱い時代だったのだなぁと感慨深いものがありました。 駐車場は広く、案内板やボランティアの案内所も設けられていて、意外なほど見応えはあると思います。事前に情報をもってからの見学をおすすめします。

階段を登ったら、すぐ現れる反射炉の姿。当時の工業革命の雰囲気が感じられます。
日本の歴史を考えた観光好きには、素晴らしいコンテンツだと思う。駐車場は無料で解放されており幹線道路目の前と入りやすい。見て学んで分かる世界遺産ということで萩市が力をいれてるのがよく分かりました。 さらには、無料ボランティアの方がいらしゃるので、話を聞けて、この世界遺産の持つ意味や背景を聞けるのが本当に素晴らしかった。タイミングよく理事長の方に案内をいただけました。萩市に来て良かった。と思える観光施設でした。ありがとうございました！
