The place combines food tents, a restaurant, a food shop in addition to the large parking area near the bank of the river. One can enjoy different activities- fishing and day-camping at the river side. There are 2 pleasant walking trails in the forest with waterfalls and Autumn color trees, and climbing nearby hills. It was quite crowded on the weekend.

We camped next to the river for free over Golden Week. It was beautiful. Some drunk kids were having a party downriver, so I didn't sleep much, but that wasn't the fault of the facility. There is a bathroom, and there were a lot of people camped there, having a good time with friends and family. The surrounding area is beautiful, and we slept under the stars and woke up to a quiet mist on the lovely, languid river.

2021年1月31日 道の駅かつらのキャンプ場が混んでいたので、川向かいでキャンプしました！ とってもすいていて トイレもあり密にならないくて良かっわ
常陸大宮市(旧桂村)に、ある道の駅です。 那珂川に沿ってできています。 この日は、道の駅もてぎ･からドライブしてきました。さほど大きくは、ありませんが、新鮮野菜を、漬け物などをはじめ色々なものが、揃っています。 ソフトクリームを食べて来ました。裏手に流れている那珂川ですが、夏場は、家族連れでいっぱいです。
今どきの道の駅とも違って、古くからある道の駅といった雰囲気 地元の方が利用している感じです。 目薬の木という気になる木の皮（漢方薬）が販売されていました。 買ってみました。 川沿いで、キャンプや釣りを楽しんでいる方々が沢山います。 かつら御前の和菓子の作りたてをここで買うことができて1個売りなので 便利で、直ぐ無くなりますが直ぐ補充されます。
とにかく人が多い。たまたまかもしれないが、夜もなんだかギターの弾き語りしている人らがいて落ち着けない。静かにキャンプしたい人にはおすすめできない。道の駅のスペースとしてはトイレも綺麗だし、売店も食材が結構あるので、買い出しの手間は省けるかもしれない。あと薪も売ってます。おばちゃんにオススメされた薪はよく燃えました。景色もいいし、なんなら御前山で軽くハイキングしてもよい。利用者のマナーだけでマイナス二点です。
