I was really surprised by how few books they had compared to the size of the building. There is a collection of books from around the world that were translated into Japanese in one room, and in a smaller room is a collection of picture books in their original language. We enjoyed browsing through the collection, but I don’t believe we would go again.

Really a good place for parents go with children. Lots of different language and kinds of books for children. And it is a historical building with good atmosphere

夜の上野公園をぶらぶら歩いていたら、通りからわずかに建物側面が照らされていたので近づいてみるとご覧のような見事なライトアップでした。夜間はたまに地元の人が歩く程度のようですね。普段からライトアップしているのかどうかは分かりませんが、たまにライトアップされる博物館なども含めて、ライトアップルートをＰＲしてもいいのではないかと思いました。

明治時代に創建され昭和初期に増築された未完の建築物です。レンガ棟から中庭を挟んで見えるアーチ棟は2015年に完成したそうです。それぞれ別の時代に建てられた建築物が上手く調和して魅力的な空間になっています。特にレンガ棟の大階段とホールが気に入ってしまい、何往復もしてしまいました(汗)
