The service on/performance of the JR trains is perfect, 5 star. However, I disappointed with the way on how to exchange the vouchers to collect the real JR tickets. It took me a hour to verify everything and issue me with a ticket (long queue) after a long journey. I think and I have mentioned to the JR staff that the way of issuing tickets need to improved, 1 star. Overall 3 star.

INFLEXIBLE! I understand that the Japanese are sticklers to the rules. However, they have to realize that any foreigner will one way or another get it wrong! After realizing I bought the wrong pass (worth 24000 yen) I approached a JR East personnel and asked if I can change it to the pass that I actually need. My pass was still unstamped (this is another matter! If you think they are that efficient - they are not!) but because I \used\ it to travel going to Tokyo station (a couple of stations) instead of using an AC card, which I also have, he wouldn't let me change it to another pass. This was his reason - \you have already started using it\. I told him I am willing to pay for that short distance trip (to Tokyo) and also pay for the price difference (around 12000 yen). He said no and said that I have to buy a new pass (36000). I tried surrendering my pass over to him (not expecting a refund anymore) and said I don't want/need it anymore (I was really upset at this time). He wouldn't have it and pleaded with me to get rid of it outside the JR office. (IT'S ALL ABOUT APPEARANCE!) I ripped the JR Pass up in front of him. I was very satisfied seeing the horror in his face! If they are serious about promoting Japan, they have to be a little flexible on matters that are petty. I have decided to slow down on my Japan travel plans! This was my 5th trip there in 4 years. If ever I go back, I would make sure I bought the correct pass; or if I made a mistake (heaven forbids) I would just tear it up and deal with the agony myself! Japan Railway is known for its efficiency. The fact is it is being ran like a communist country. Everything is centralized and nobody that a client is able to personally talk with has any autonomy to make decisions.

Very unfriendly behavior of the personal at train station , as special if you are foreigner. They do not really understand anything then japanease .They throw you the tickets like you are a piece of sh... Try to complain yopu wouldn't find any email adress or toher to do so ...
