Went during early june , still very cold and walkway are all covered in snow. amazing experience and views of the smoking crater. A must go if visiting Hokkaido

The station is clean and affords you one last opportunity to use a bathroom, fill up on water, and buy last minute snacks. I have subtracted to stars, because taking the gondola down but hiking up saves you only one third of the round trip Price (yen 1,800 round trip; 1,200 just down). The trail to the top of the lift is groomed, but watch out for people skiing down.
