For many years I have stayed at Bears Den Goryu, I think it will be 9 next Feb 2020 ! Staying on my own, with family or a group of Melbourne friends - each time Lesley provides a special Ski holiday in an ideal location in Goryu. I last reviewed in 2015 and cannot wait until next yr when our group will book out the entire lodge for the week. The property is expertly maintained in a suburb condition - everything works with a high standard fit out. All you require is within easy walking distance with excellent local cuisine, onsen's and skiing of course ! The central dining room lounge area with it famous Jimmy Possum Aussie table and open fire are a buzz after a hard day on the slopes with drinks, nibbles and laughter. But the peace and the serenity of Bears Den location are never overlooked, so plenty of chill time with a book and glass of red. Thank you Lesley for so many fantastic memories. The full cooked breakfast are magic. See you Feb 2020.
I was looking for somewhere close to the Hakuba Goryu ski lifts and found Bears Den Lodge. It was only for a short stay and Lesley picked me up from the bus stop, organised skis, lift pass and a quick snack and I was up on the slopes by 1pm after landing in Tokyo at 7.30am that morning. Lesley was super helpful from the moment I booked giving advice & recommendations over email. She is very knowledgeable about the area, the skiing and places to eat/ drink etc. The lodge is a very comfortable and well designed place allowing you to come and go easily with a place to store and dry your kit. The room and bed were very comfortable and Lesley cooks a mean breakfast that sets you up and allows you to get out early on to the slopes. I stayed in mid March and was able to ski back to the Lodge from the main lifts station. This place is warm, homely, comfortable and convenient with a lovely communal area, a TV room with Netflix etc, lots of movies/games and there is a great terrace looking straight out into the trees. I had a fantastic stay and thanks to Lesley for being such a wonderful host.
I am usually quite picky about accommodations and Bears Den has been great! The rooms are clean and comfortable, breakfast is good and Lesley was very friendly and made sure we got everything covered. She even picked us up from the nearest train station which was very helpful esp during winter when there are snow everywhere. I will definitely come back again and highly recommended for ski beginners! Bears Den is near the beginners slope (Goryu 47) and you can actually ski back into the resort from the ski field.
We love staying with Lesley and Riley at Bears Den Mountain Lodge. It's exactly the sort of place you want to head back to after a big day on the mountain: warm, homely, friendly and with everything you need. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the central area is a great place to meet new friends and share a delicious meal. The service is second to none - you really feel like you're at home. We would never stay anywhere else when we visit Hakuba.
Our stay at Bears Den was amazing. Its a beautiful, modern house run by extremely helpful, warm people. An easy walk up to the ski hill, and you can ski in to it at the end of the day. Service, rooms and location are all A. We love it so much we're going back next year!
We have had many very successful weekly stays at Bears Den and would highly recommend it to others. The bedrooms are clean and attractive, and there is a lovely dining room with an open fire, as well as a lounge room for guests to relax in. Lesley is a friendly and helpful hostess, offering cooked breakfasts and a lift to any of the resorts each morning. Bears Den is truly a home away from home.
Great little cosy lodge with excellent service and amenities run by lovely Perth lady. Nice brekky and lovely family like atmosphere where you meet new people apre' ski by the fire place after a chill in the onsen. This place, a stone throw away from the ski fields with great slopes between Hakuba Goryu and Happo One. Night life is limited but plenty enough- absolutely loved the place and people around. A must go destination, don't delay, book now!
