A beautiful lodge nestled in the serene forest of Yakushima, accessible by road out of Miyanoura. They have newer cabins with modern fixtures and older ones with a more traditional charm. Located on site are a wooden and stone onsen which rotate between men and women every night so that you can experience both (we liked the wooden one). It was incredibly therapeutic to soak in the warm bath after a long day of hiking. Make sure you clean yourself thoroughly before entering the water. Breakfast and dinner are included in your accommodation price. The staff will ask you to reserve a particular time for your meals every day. Breakfast was between 7-8:30 am and dinner between 7-10 I believe. Dinner portions are monstrously huge and sure to satisfy any appetite. If you have any dietary requests make sure to inform the staff ahead of time and they will go above and beyond to accommodate. It may help to send these specifications by email or through your travel company beforehand if you do not speak Japanese, especially in the case of allergies. The staff were incredibly kind throughout our stay and outdid all of our service expectations for Japan. As we had no rental car, an employee at the lodge as well as the owner himself offered to drive us to and from the main road. I can't say enough good things about this lodge. If you want to be one with the forest during your stay and eat very, very well, Yaedake Sanso Lodge is the place for you. :) * One word of caution for the arachnophobic and otherwise: Yakushima is a sub-tropical island, therefore the lodge does attract a large number of insects in the forest. It will not be rare to see medium to large spiders, beetles, and other insects on your walls and outside at night/in the onsen.

This place is a great little escape. Beautiful river, very friendly, helpful staff and fantastic food. Perfect if you like to get away from the hustle and bustle and relax. Arigato gozaimasu.
Such an awesome experience. Great prize and the food is very good. Really friendly and accommodating staff. We stayed for one night and liked it so much we asked to stay one more night and they had managed to make it work! Staff doesn't really speak English but they will try and make sure your ready to see some bugs
The cottages in the middle of forest are nice and the communal semi-outdoor baths with forest/river views are great, and the service is friendly. We didn’t have a car but it wasn’t a problem. The staff drove us to the lodge from Miyanoura and back again. When we wanted to visit Shiratani Unsuikyo hiking trails, there’s a nearby bus stop with direct connection to the trail start. They serve breakfast and dinner. The portions are big and include local ingredients. You can also order packed lunch (bento box) for the next day, but they weren’t able to accommodate special diets unlike with the meals.
Lodge in the forest and at the riverside, clean and modern facilty, delicious food and kind staff. We loved everything there.
山の中なので、とても静かでした。お食事も美味しく、隣に座った外国の方とも屋久島の情報交換をしたり、楽しい時間を過ごせました。お宿の雰囲気も良く、スタッフの方もフレンドリーで気持ちの良い滞在ができました。少し港から離れているので朝早い出発の時などはやや不便でしたが、屋久杉や宮之浦を目指す方には問題なく歩ける距離です。
ロッジ八重岳山荘 縄文杉登山で利用させて頂きました。 白谷雲水峡にも近く、宮之浦港にも近く便利なところです。 雰囲気も部屋の感じ広さも良かった
11月中旬に一泊しました。 静かで穏やかな山小屋の雰囲気をとても気に入りました。無料でカヤックを貸してくれ、裏手を流れる川に漕ぎ出すことができます。男女それぞれお風呂がある他、貸し切りの五右衛門風呂があり堪能しました。 宿泊予約に不備があったのですが、スタッフの方が親身に対応してくださいました。食事も美味しくまた泊まりに来たいです。
