Great place. Lucky its snowing (-1 degrees now). The private hot Spring is great @ yen 2200 with tax. You can join the public pool if you don't wanna spend extra cash. Just be mindful, the hot spring here is with your birth suit (naked)

We've never been to an "onsen" before but this hot spring is out of this world. We even get to dress like the locals. Great hotel and delicious delicacies. A must for first timers.
Was going to rate 3star but when the wind came in the night we couldn’t stop the windows from shaking and making noise so had a bad sleep. Don’t mind the old hotel that needs repairs when we pay a fair price but it is important to have good service which was on the face of staff pretty good (behind the curtains and sometimes in the public areas you can see a lack of staff caring about appearance, leaving untidy work areas) and a good sleep which we didn’t have :(
This was one of my favourite stays during this trip to Japan. The food was great (I particularly loved the chawanmushi and ochazuke available at dinner, so comforting!) and the onsens were wonderful as well. I would recommend visiting the onsens in the morning as well as evening so you can experience both sides as they switch throughout the day. Don't forget to visit the lounge as they have some awesome massage chairs for you to use. They also have some nice yukata for rent (or may be included if you stay in one of their pricier rooms) as well as omiyage coupons to their gift shop. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The location is also great as it is only a short walk to the town centre where the main hot spring display is. They have a brief survey in English that you can complete (available near the travel pamphlets before the elevator) and they will give you a small souvenir.
Staff could only speak very little English, enough for basic communication. I stayed in a Japanese style tatami room which is a bit dilapidated. Dinner tasted quite good, prefer having the dinner inside bedroom if someone is travelling alone. The view from my room window is beautiful!
A superb value in Kusatsu. I understand the complaint by some that it is in need of some touch ups and that it is a little dated. In the end, I don't think it detracted any from the helpful and friendly staff, the wonderful onsen facilities they have, or their stellar location within Kusatsu. In other words, none of the complaints or minor changes I have had any impact in enjoying this lovely resort and resort town. I would like to see them offer WiFi and or Ethernet on every floor. They do not have enough routers set up, so the connection can be rather spotty. I know I am there to enjoy Kusatsu and not my phone, but when I do lay down for the evening or get up in the morning I might want to catch up on the news and the days events.
Private baths available, older resort and small beds.
Beautiful place and the onsen...just wow!
