Cute little provincial airport. No need to fly to Sapporo if you want to go to Eastern Hokkaido. Choice of food is rather limited, especially for an early morning breakfast. But there is one restaurant open - good enough.

Kushiro is very proud if its cranes and there are crane sculptures everywhere. The souvenir shops at the airport offer many Japanese pastries and deserts that are unique to this city and not easily found elsewhere. Not all shops offer duty free goods so do compare prices before purchasing. If you are visiting Kushiro, most likely you are here to see cranes, and the best way is to drive around to the different observatories. There are a lot of car rental operators at the airport, and the car pick up is just opposite the car park, which is a 1 minute drive from the airport. There are only 3 gas stations in Kushiro. None beside the airport and the nearest one is roughly 15-20 min drive away at Kushiro city. There is a second gas station at the city centre and the third gas station is rather far, near Akan.

A small regional airport. Don't expect lavishness here but it is decent enough and functional.

Tancho Ito Tsuru-the best place to visit in the untouched Hokkaidō island. Although it doesn’t seem like Honshu but full of heart and care! People are treating you special and with the kindest hospitality. Worthy to visit. Not to mention the amazing and unique landscape what doesn’t match to anything else!
