Machiya station is not far from Tokyo downtown, Machiya is about 24 minutes from Akasaka, Tokyo central station. Close to shopping center and supermarket

Machiya is one of the hub stations of Arakawa City or Ward. In fact the main Arakawa City office is located here. It is a very convenient Train station, having the Keisei Ueno-Narita Line; The green Chiyoda Subway line, which cuts right through the centre of the city; The Arakawa Tram Line- tokyo's oldest and maybe last remaining tramline; And various bus lines. It is also one of the best places we've found for restaurants, bars, and traditional culture mixed with modern day. It seems much easier finding great traditional restaurants around Machiya, than around the more crowded, touristy areas like Shinjuku & Shibuya. Machiya is in the centre of the area known by locals as 'downtown':- the old central area of Tokyo, including Ueno, Asakusa, Yanaka. Perhaps, because of this, it seems to have a friendly, traditional, family atmosphere about it. Machiya is about 19 minutes from Tokyo central station.

都電・京成・千代田線が交わる下町な雰囲気の駅です都電は都内最後に成った路面電車になり、何時も混んでるイメージが有りますが、非常に活気有る街、町屋。

町屋駅近くの斎場で友人のご家族の通夜のために、初めて利用しました。 東京の下町って感じで、何故か故郷の商店街を思い出しました。 駅の周辺に飲食店も多く、便利且つ住みやすそうな印象を受けました。 駅については、決して綺麗とは言えませんが、しっかりと清掃されてます。

地上、地下、高架、３つの駅が交差するところ。荒川区というと日暮里や南千住が思い浮かびますが、こちらも荒川区の中心的な駅だと思います。 1913年に都電の駅が開業(当初は王子電気軌道の駅で稲荷前停留場と呼ばれていたそうです)、次に京成の町屋駅が1931年、東京メトロ千代田線は1969年に開業したとのことです。 都電の駅名は1951年に町屋一丁目に1977年に町屋駅前と改称されたそうです。1番最初に出来た駅なんだから改称するなら町屋でいいように思いますが……
