The Onsen is really good. Buffet is decent. Baths switch every day. The town is very quiet though, not much to do outside of the Onsen.

I wanted to spend one night nearby Mt. Fuji and just happened to find Shimobe Hotel. This place was truly a gem, secluded in a very quiet mountainous area. It was the perfect place for total relaxation and healing. I think it would be a rather difficult place to find unless you have your own transportation. Upon arrival at the hotel, you are warmly greeted by name at the check-in lobby. Everything about the hotel is kindly explain to you during this time. There is a large onsen bath on the 1st floor which closes at 1 a.m. and reopens at 5 a.m. On the next day, the men's and women's sections are switched so that both men and women can experience the entire onsen. Dinner is a buffet style with a good variety. Mains are individual shabushabu, steak, tempura, salmon sashimi, various noodles, and a specialty of this hotel whole fish grilled on a stick on open fire which was wonderful. From 8 to 9 pm there is a drum show and pounding of rice cake sgow at the lobby which was quite entertaining. During dinner and show your room is transformed with the Japanese mattress for sleeping. This is a tadami room and traditional Ryokan style. Breakfast was also nice. Check out time is 10 am. If you are not able to speak Japanese, it could be a bit difficult. I think we were the only foreigners staying at the hotel. We were fortunate to meet a young Korean employee of the hotel who started work here 3 months ago who told us that we were the first Koreans he has met staying at this hotel. His name is Mr. SeokJoon JUNG and was super friendly. Mt.Fuji is about a 30 minute drive from the hotel and can take you to the exact view point of Mt.Fuji which is on the 1,000 yen bill.
Superb hot springs. Spacious, peaceful and I loved it. Came here on a weekday and got the onsen to myself. Cost is aroun 1600 for entry fee and towels. Will be back if I get the chance.
As Americans on our first visit to Japan, we were concerned about not following the rules properly or embarrassing ourselves. I can honestly say that Mr. Fukushima and the staff were friendly, accommodating and even though the hotel was packed. We had a fantastic stay with a beautiful panoramic view from our room, and the hot and cold springs are so refreshing and invigorating. We would definitely stay longer on our next visit! The dinner buffet was authentic Japanese cuisine and we went with the Shabu-shabu, although I can’t help but feel a little spoiled that they served pork roast with veggies and cabbage (it was just like mom’s)! The grilled fish on a skewer was delicious, even though a whole fish skewered head to tail was not our first choice...it should have been. If you do a little studying on the rituals before bathing it will make you feel so much more comfortable as soon as you walk in the locker room and they rotate the springs daily. So you can experience half of them the first day and the other half the next day.
Good hot spring, good food
Nice place and view is good
Stayed at the room where 'Ishihara Yuji' had stayed for 3 months before. He was famouse actor in Japan. The food and service they offered were so great. The water from hot spring was very good, too.
