Wakkanai has a lot of russian signage and it is no surprise that you'd eventually find a russkie eatery somewhere in town. This place serves food that i find great in flavour variety (see photo below). Just 2 people there running the place when i visited so kindly cut them some slack and be patient when waiting for your food. Had a platter with a little bit of everything in small portions so that everything from the borsch to the meat could be sampled. Borsch was thick and hearty, and the dumplings were surprisingly done stewed/steamed style and not gyoza fried style but nevertheless excellent-tasting to me. The "hot ice cream cake" (translated from Japanese menu) was actually a hot cake with ice cream on it but still tasted fabulous for me. Note : Everyone who posts a food review for this eating place will have their own taste preferences. Good or bad is subjective depending on each person's taste buds as i might hate what you like and vice-versa. So both high and low rating reviews given by everyone posting their own review here are subjective and not assurances that the food in this place will be to your liking. That said, if your taste buds are like mine, you will like/hate accordingly and give the same type of review for this place.

Hopped in here one fine evening on my visit to Wakkanai and we were pleasantly surprised! On the outside, it's this small shack on the side street. Walk in and you feel like you are transported into Russia while still retaining the Japanese feel. The food was very good. Had a platter, shashlik, se bread and ofc, some Russian beer and vodka. Very modestly priced. A must visit.
Had a couple of meals up near the hotels but were a bit average. Then we found this gem - great Russian food and beer, English menu and lovely staff! Also just behind the Russian there is a great little soup curry restaurant. Free parking. Definitely come down to this little area for dinner in Wakkanai!
Good traditional Russian food. Small cosy restaurant, however it can be a bit pricey.
The restaurant was just next to the seafood market. Food was excellent at Russian Restaurant. Had red cabbage soup, fried potato cake, clams boiled in wine, beef staganoff with rice, bacon steaks!! Just delicious! Must try if u ever come here!
Rude service! I arrived almost two hours before closing time and they refused to serve me because apparently they were "sold out". The place was half empty and they actually let a Japanese couple after me! I guess they didn't want to deal with a gaijin. I advise giving them a call before you go to find out if they fancy serving you today. (Not sure if they speak English though)
Had a very tasty Russian meal
some rusdian beers
