Our innkeeper drove us on one fine afternoon to the airport, and what a master he was of his vehicle- calmly controlling it over the icy roads. It was 2pm as we drove up the Departures Gate (which i should point out, is the same as the Arrival Gate). It was like Christmas and Santa had given us a lift in his sleigh. Upon entering the airport, we were met with a warm blast of air indicating great HVAC design and Insulation. The eerie silence was broken by a lady in her JAL puffy jacket popping her head out of an office to let me know that the airport was just opening and she would be with us shortly. I made use of the bathroom facilities and it must be noted that the decor of the men's W/C was very homely and made me feel at ease - which is nice as I am a very anxious flier. When I returned to my bags the staff had proudly unveiled their security and check in equipment in all its polished chrome glory. The process of security checks and check in was no more than 5 minutes. JAL staff are the most compitent that i have experienced. After, I headed up to the second floor which overlooked the taxiway with Mt Rishiri standing proud behind. The silence was broken by the turboprops of the JAL SAAB 340B magestically touching down to such a poetic backdrop. From this point to the (sad) moment i had when it sank in that they would be my final steps on Rishiri Island, was no more than 20 minutes. This clearly indicates how efficient the staff are able to have arriving passengers exit and alight for departure. I am highly envious of Rishiri Island Airport, their efficient staff and wonderful selection of vending machine merchandise. If an Inn was opened at the airport, I'd stay there for days.

降り立った時の気持ち良さは最高！ フライトスケジュールは以下の通り。 日本航空（JAL） 丘珠空港（所要時間：約50分）利尻空港 1日1往復 全日本空輸（ANA） 新千歳空港（所要時間：約50分）利尻空港 １日1往復。６月から９月の季節運航便。 早朝に気候調査のメールが来ました。条件付きフライトになる可能性があるとのことですが、 大丈夫でした。 条件付きフライトが多いのは管制塔がないからかなあ。

飛行機好きでなくても近くて楽しめます。歩いてタラップに行くので写真が沢山撮れます。

想像していたよりもキレイですよね滑走路は草むらの中でした風向きのせいか180度旋回しながら高度を下げて横風で着陸寸前まで左右に揺れてちょっと怖かったけどパイロットの技術力が必要なフライトでした無事に到着してトラップを降りると風速17メートル以上飛ばされそう、
