Food: Price: Service/Decor: Medium sized Kyushu style udon shop. Visited at lunch time on a holiday. Small wait for a table and poorly organized waiting process. Must order by buying ticket from machine. Many options but not a lot of explanation. Counter and table seats available. Food was prepared quickly. Tempura was excellent. Noodle consistency was more gelatinous than the Shikoku style udon that I am used to. Recommended for tempura fans.

cash only. food was no so bad. but, I wouldn't want to come to eat em again. I can't find any improvement from decades. this is my first time to come, but I know it.
Probably the best udon I've had in Tokyo. It is hakata style udon so it is a more translucent and chewy style. It has quite a bite to it so some people might find it hard to digest. I went early right when it opened so I could even see them freshly making the noodles. Highly recommend it if you are in the Shinjuku area!
Went to this udon place in Fukuoka and really loved it, found out that they have a store in Tokyo as well, so went to check it out. It's a bit of a walk from Takadanobaba Sta., and the outside of the store looks quite elegant, unlike the one I went to in Fukuoka, which was much more busy and casual looking. Once entered, though, the cozy atmosphere is pretty much the same, but brighter and more quiet. The guests demography seems the same, consists of all kinds of people from families with kids, couples and single guests of all age range. We went around 11:45 and there wasn't a line, but kept pretty busy. The price of the items seems to be generally 100 higher than the same items in Fukuoka, it's pretty reasonable as rent is so much higher here and still very low price for Tokyo standards (Goboten Udon is just 580). The food was still very good, big volume and Goboten fried fresh. I ordered an extra topping of fried shrimps (250), which were good too. Overall I'd definitely strongly recommend Daichi no Udon and hope they open a store closer to my area so I can go more often...
Hands down my favorite udon in Japan so far. I go here at least once a week. Finding it hard to not get the famous udon with meat and extra shrimp topping. If you don't know kanji the 2 buttons with faces are your typical hot soup udon. One with and one without meat. Highly recommend you try it at least once if you love udon like I do.
