Extremely unpleasant and rude Russian girl. Pushing us out although there was no one in the restaurant. Menu difficult to understand. Japanese staff very friendly and helpful. Not worth the money.

Excellent Russian food at very reasonable prices. Friendly staff, lovely cosy atmosphere and a wide menu for everyone. A nice hideaway from the bustle of Shinjuku. Highly recommended.

I'd like to preface this review by mentioning that I had been to quite a few Russian restaurants in the US, Europe, and in Harbin, China before going to Sugari in Tokyo, Japan. This particular Sungari branch on 3-chome is located close to Shinjuku Station in the Ryuseido building on the basement floor. While walking down the stairs (elevator access available as well), I noticed the walls were adorned by graphics of the restaurant logo, reminiscent of Constructivist posters of Malevich. Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted by Russian staff (one was a Muscovite), who were at least trilingual (Russian, English, and Japanese). The interior of the restaurant was very elegant, the type of décor you would see in posh restaurants in Europe. I'm not an expert in interiors, but the interior looked very authentic early 20th century restaurant feel. I was seated in a private room with 6 of my friends. One of my friends happens to be quite a wine connoisseur and his curiosity was piqued when he learned that Sungari offered wines from Georgia. The 2013 Marani Napareuli caught the eye of my friend and we decided to order that. As far as the menu was concerned, I ordered the special lunch menu that comprised of piroshki, smoked salmon salad, rolled cabbage, marinated salmon with Blini, borscht, and beef stroganoff. As we started the entrée, we realized that the Georgian wine Marani was a fantastic choice for pairing with the stroganoff. Overall, the food offered at Sungari was excellent, and the dining experience was made even better by the authenticity of the interior and Russian staff. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Went there with a duck. We ordered two Nov special course. Food were really good but it’s pity that they don’t have menus with photos. So it maybe a little bit hard for the beginners. We had a great time in this kind of romantic atmosphere...btw the food kind of too much for us:)

A little expensive but good. The wine from George was surprisingly good.
