Fascinating dyers workshop which sometimes holds special events for the public. The shop is a great place to buy unique gifts made from dyed cloth.

This is where kimono fabric is dyed and painted by the traditional katazome (using a resist/masking to keep white spaces and then dying and brush-painting the spaces) method. They also give classes on Edo Sarasa (stencils) which are very reasonably priced and include a tour of the production area. Our class had only us in it and cost around 20 per person, including materials. They don't speak much English, so I recommend getting somebody who speaks Japanese to book. The products in the shop are absolute works of art, and we'll with a look.
こちらで、染めもの体験させていただきました。伝統的な染め方で、大量のタマネギの皮でストールを染めました。私自身、初めての体験で、とても貴重な時間でした。染めものお煮出している時は、なんだか料理をしているような感じでした。 この日はちょうど、染の小道2019が開催されていて、新宿が染めものの街であることを改めて感じました。 海外の人方も増えて来ているとの事で、日本文化をいろいろな国の方に体験してもらいたいと思います。
染の小道でお邪魔しました。工房に入れるのはワクワクします！次は染め体験に参加してみたいと思います！
以前、染の里落合の企画展で、お邪魔しました。本格的な江戸友禅。その作業工程を見せて頂きました。かつてはすぐ脇を流れる妙正寺川で布についたのりを洗い流したとの事。細かい作業と出来上がった作品の素晴らしさに感動しました。
型染め体験は、とても面白かったです‼️
