It was a nest place to see how villagers live in the area. The upkeep of the place was nice. The gentleman at the ticket place was nice to deal with and I enjoyed my time in the house.

Catch a glimpse of village life in days of yore. This is a chance to see how the villagers lived. Frankly, I expected more information in English but was just wondering around a lot of the time. Left with my curiosity unsatisfied. Not enough done for a foreign tourist.
Simply, just take photos of the outside which is very pretty. Very little of interest to see inside (I’ve posted photos of the main things). We spent longer taking our shoes on and off than we did looking around the house. If it was located anywhere else it would clearly be a tourist trap. Because of where it is it is ‘just’ (and only just) worth going into. Otherwise, save your Yen and spend it on some of the yummy street food.
Beautiful place, really shows us the lifestyles of the shirikawago people. Love the woodworks in the house there's an ok view. But what you are really paying for is the experience. You will see things that only can be found in Japan like the ceramic pot boiling water the place is quite cooling due to the architecture of the building. I hope you enjoy this place! PS: Adult tickets are 300/kids are 150
It is a traditional Japanese house. You see it or not, you don't really miss anything. I thing it's more attractive from outside than from inside.
