Free, but they take donation. On the other side of town if you are staying near Uehara port. Lovely place with lots of animal (not alive) and lots of studying material to learn about the animals. They also have a video showing near the entrance. Take off your shoes when entering, perfect for kids.

A small museum. Free entry. There's information in both Japanese and English about the wildlife on the island. Probably the only place you will see a (stuffed) Iriomote wildcat! You can find out lots more about the wildcats. We spent about 45 minutes here.

Excellent little conservation centre on Iriomote Island. It may be small but it's very charming and has a lot of information pertaining to the island and the famous wild cats Iriomote Jima is known for. Entry is free and you need to remove your shoes and wear the slippers provided. They also have a water fountain which was a god send since it was so hot during my visit.

30-60 min is plenty of time to see this fun and informative museum. Only 5-10% of signage is in English. But there are videos and interactive features that will make some sense. You will not see live cats here FYI. Nice air conditioning and bathrooms but no cafe or snack area. Great for older kids but most scientific details will have limited attraction for younger kids

Nature lovers, don't pass this place up, when you visit Iriomote-jima. There's a climate controlled atmosphere, friendly staff and, you can get information about all the wildlife and plants on the island. Displays, have English and Japanese descriptions and, photography is permitted. I left there with a wealth of information about the Yama Neko wildcat, rare birds, butterflies and plants, not seen in many other parts of the world.
