Prepare for the unstoppable flow of fried chicken wings. Be careful though cuz price can be stacked up very quickly. Better come with drinker friends seating are mostly for smokers.

A popular izakaya chain famous for it's quirky mascot Yama-chan and Nagoya pepper fried chicken wings. Foreigner friendly! The Ueno branch has several floors divided into smoking and non-smoking sections - they will ask you on the ground floor and send you up on an elevator. Doesn't seem to be as crowded as other spots, maybe I was just lucky. They welcome both loners and groups, though each has to order a drink as an entry 'fee'. Food wise, it's no fine dining for sure. Imagine more bar food like dishes - chicken wings, bbq pork skewers, deep fried everything... also pasta, fried rice and hot pots? The prices are alright for what it is. It's a spot to sit and drink with friends and family for sure, gets quite loud. I recommend trying the popular wings. Don't expect meaty wings coated in sauce like in the US though, these are oil friend and dipped in ground pepper, quite salty and peppery. I think they went a bit too crazy with the pepper on mine because it felt like an involuntary cinnamon challenge on the first bite. Other dishes are fine, too - great with alcoholic coctails on offer. I wouldn't go here to have a sophisticated meal though. Good izakaya experience anyhow!

For the love of chicken wings, it's always a pleasure to go to Yamachan. Pure Nagoya style.

All about the wings and drinks. There is an English menu. Can get pricy quickly. A beer or soda is recommended if you're planning to consume mass amount of wings... Which are addicting but you need to cut the oil and seasoning in between

The spicy peppery chicken wings are too saltish & lack meat. Perhaps if you are keen on chicken wings & nearby, worth a try. Otherwise, don't need to go the distance to find the place.

Spicy pepper wings highly recommended. Matcha mojito is really good. The price is fair enough and it is foreign friendly.

Dry, dry, dry! Dry wings, dry sweet potatoes, dry service. The servers looked like they hated being there, not a smile in sight. You can ask them to do magic but was afraid I would make them cry! The wings were horrible, just totally overcooked, same with the sweet potatoes. Good things, no smoking floor which is hard to come by in Tokyo. The tofu and cheese bites were good. Beer was good but Hard to get a server as they hid in their cubby. I heard good things about this chain but I've felt like I've been led to.
