This was a neat experience. This shop has been there for 80 years, and the man on the right is a third generation master knife sharpener, with his mother. I don’t truly know the quality of the blades, but with their knowledge and skill, I bet they are great value/quality blades that don’t break the bank. Prices seemed very reasonable, very nice people, and I got a quick overview of sharpening and care.

Great little knife shop in Kyoto. If you are lucky you will meet two generations - father and son - of FURUTA knife sharpeners. English OK (better than my Japanese!) but don’t expect a full conversation - enough to understand the different types of knives, and best ones for different uses. Importantly they can explain the ones with stainless and the ones which are fully carbon steel (and require just a little bit more care and attention) Above all, they have very reasonable prices and feels like an authentic place to buy your Japanese kitchen knife. Engraving your name on the knife is free.
Amazing little shop. They gave me a small sponge to remove rust, engraved my name in Japanese and sharpened the knives for free. I just wish I had more money to buy more cooking knives.
They specialises in knives sharpening. Good little shop for knives and edge related goods. Great customer service. Will go again
Very friendly family run knife shop. The knives are excellent quality.
