Very famous and historic grave where an Englishman was buried in 1868. Frank Toovey Lake was a midshipman on HMS Manilla, when he died and was buried here. He was accompanying Richard Henry Brunton, the 'father of Japan's lighthouses' on a reconnaissance mission, and Brunton describes his burial in his memoirs. Since 1868, the gravesite has been looked after by villagers and over the years this has become justly much admired. The grave can be found in a beautiful setting a few minutes walk from Enoura Harbour. In 2018 a couple of TV programmes were broadcast about its history.
