I’ve been coming to this place since the late 90’s when I was living in Japan just after college. If you want a unique gift for yourself or others in terms of incense, then this place is awesome, but keep in mind that they probably won’t speak English. However, I highly recommend getting the “Koe Toe May” incense. The Japanese for that is 紅乙女 and is also spelled こおとめ In hiragana. It comes in packets of 100g. I put it in one of those electric wax incense warmers that has the little ceramic dish on top. It’s such a great smell and definitely different than say a normal scented candle. Plus, you can buy little silk crepe fabric flowers and other doo dads that have the incense already inside of them. Please show the shopkeeper ladies this sentence if you want to buy 100g of that Koe Toe May incense. “紅乙女を100グラムお願いします。” Hope that you enjoy it!

お香は好みがありますから、誰にでも勧められるというわけではありませんが、京都のお寺さんの薫りと言えば想像してもらえるでしょうか。京都に行ったとき、練香、抹香、線香、防虫香、等を買って帰ります。京都らしい香り、残り香が長く残ります。
