東京大学本郷キャンパス内にはいくつも銅像がありますが、隈川宗雄の胸像もその一つです。隈川宗雄 （18581918）とは、明治16年に東京大学医学部を卒業。翌年より5年間ベルリン大学に留学し生化学を研究した人物。帰国後の明治23年 医科大学病理化学上取調嘱託（講師）に任ぜられ、わが国における生化学の開拓者となりました。 本郷キャンパスの中央右寄りにある医学部2号館本館前（健康と医学の博物館東側）の人通りがあまりないところにあります。
