Wonderful view! Tough for children and elderly as they need to be fit to climb up rock walls, steep stairs to reach this peak

This is a really good place for a shortish hike. Once you have found the entrance (Ashiya Rock Garden) the start is pretty steep, gaining about 400m in a couple of kilometres, and you do actually need to scrabble up some small, steep sections, but it is really fun. I'd say its okay for kids aged 7 and upwards, though they'll need to be careful. My daughters really enjoy it. It's a pretty popular place but not crowded. You do need to keep an eye out for wild pigs and snakes. We've seen both on different visits. From the top of this hike (pictured) you can walk a few minutes further and find a pond full of water-lilies. If you take a track leading down and west you'll come out near Hankyu Okamoto Stn area. From Hankyu Ashiyagawa Stn to this rock place then down to Okamoto was about 15km, mostly downhill, and took us a couple of hours. You could do it faster but we stopped for breaks quite often and it was intensely hot. The route is virtually all under tree cover.
Fun, but sometimes intense hike up to great views of Ashiya and the Kobe area. Young children or elderly might have problems as there are some areas accessible only by climbing. Wild boars are often seen roaming around, and there is a great little restaurant/bar in a cave at the start of the hike! Can be hard to find from Ashiyagawa station.
Just loved this places... Beautiful
