Echizen Bamboo Doll Village is located in the north of Kuzuryu River flowing from Katsuyama toward the sea in a town called Maruoka-cho in Sakai City. This is a place where you can see fine arts of craftsmen all hand-made from bamboo. Those bamboo dolls made of bamboo from Echizen region produced in this village are designated as local crafts of Fukui Prefecture. This organization of craftsmen has won several award for their fine craftsmanship and highly regarded for high quality. The workshop was established in 1950's from the time started to create bamboo dragon for Exposition held in Toyama Prefecture. The place is a combination of a workshop and museum selling various kind of their products. They also offer trial lesson to have hands-on experience of making your own bamboo craft for visitors. The course is provided in their workshop called \ Kagari \ in which they also provide special exhibition of showing how craftsmen work on their products. This section requires admission of 300 yen for adults and 150 yen for children. The central building is a shop selling their products as well as many kinds of local souvenir products on the 1st floor. The second floor is restaurant. ( Trans-word : TGM Japan Guide )
